PQ’S 2!

Today is my Cavapoo’s second birthday! I have learned SO much about myself through PQ and the pandemic this past year. Through PQ, I have learned that God, Nathan and my parents are INCREDIBLY patient with me and that I often do not extend the same grace and mercy as they do to me.

I never understood what it meant that a dog was man’s best friend until having my own puppy. I also did not understand loyalty until having a puppy. I will confess I do tell PQ when I am exasperated with him for various things such as NOT listening that he is “an awful wretched beast!” (This “beast” weighs less than 9 lbs and is afraid of EVERYTHING!) I am sure that over my 39 years on God’s green earth my folks have thought the same thing of me at times!!!!

God has used PQ to teach me about interruptions and how to manage distractions (which is a test I am continually failing, arg!). I do take my responsibility to care for PQ seriously. I am thankful for all the people whom God has allowed in my life for me to care for, pray for and love!

Father God, thank You that Your care for us is perfect. You deal with us justly and fairly even when we are unjust and unfair. Lord God, thank You for the joy PQ brings to people, including me. Lord God, thank You that You are so incredibly patient. Lord, may we seek You and care for all that You have entrusted to us in a manner that pleases and glorifies You. Thank You Triune God for Your love for us. In Jesus’s Name I pray. Amen.

I usually video PQ; however, here are some pictures of PQ over the past year if you are interested!

  1. Adorable and lovable 2 yr old! Thank you for sharing PQ with us, a wonderful testimony of our Creator. He perfectly matches us with beloved pets.
Funny, I was JUST thinking to write a post introducing my new kitten!
God bless you Mandy and PQ too! 🐶

  2. What do you know, I fooled myself hours earlier (PH time) than April 1 that you will be posting on April fools day, Mandy! First of all, Happy 2nd Birthday PQ!!!!!! 🎈🎉🍕🎊🍵 I hope he remembers the man on the screen looking at him as he patiently wants to go and play outside. GOD has a way of making us reflect and see ourselves in a mirror, Mandy! Sometimes it comes in cuddly and cuteness form. Indeed, GOD uses PQ as He used Planty before and we know it will work because this messenger, “beast” may he be, looks like an effective one. Cute and cuddly! Blessings to you, Nathan, and your parents! Now, I’ve seen articles on PQ and Planty.

  3. What an adorable little face PQ has! I love dogs and yes, they can definitely teach you things about yourself. Pets are relatively easy to take care of, the harder lessons to learn come with your own children, but I digress. I hope PQ gets a special treat! Our last dog, “Spunky” who was an American Spaniel, loved Dairy Queen ice cream cones. Just a small one, one doesn’t want to go over board. She was with us for 14 years and I still miss her. Give PQ a hug for me! Blessings!

    1. Thank you, Bruce! Nathan and my dad thought the ice cream was hilarious, me not so much but I am so thankful for this picture now! My folks will be glad to know PQ has already gotten treats for his birthday so far and I am not the treat giver!

What kind of dog was “Spunky”?! 14 years is a long time!!

      1. Spunky was an American Spaniel, and when we were approaching Dairy Queen, she literally could not sit still, she would have gone through the window if we had let her. 14 years for a spaniel is rare but she was well taken care of. Blessings.

      2. Sorry missed the American Spaniel part and went straight to Dairy Queen! PQ is like with that Arby’s. He will wink and shake and jump for some roast beef. Sometimes he even gets himself free food! I have NO doubt that you took EXCELLENT care of Spunky! Spaniels are smart and curious. PQ is a Poodle mixed with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so he’s got a poodle head with spaniel ears, silly puppy! Praying for you and Peggy!

    1. I just picked him up, gave him a hug and a kiss and said, “this is from Miss Mary Cates!” and then threw the ball for him! I appreciate you! Never hesitate to contact me so that I can best pray for you! You are a special lady! Loved your post on Alan’s blog!

    1. Hi, Alan! PQ is Poodle mixed with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel! He has a poodle crown with spaniel ears, silly puppy! I wrote last year for his 1st birthday since that was early days of covid and in serious lockdown we didn’t see anyone, so I thought I would continue the trend! I will check out Beth’s blog, thank you for sharing!!!

  4. It’s amazing how much we can learn about true love and loyalty from our canine friends. I wrote a song once about my beloved Dalmation, Poochini. It’s called, “Dog From God.” The tag line of the chorus says, “God, help me love you like my dog loves me.” Happy Birthday to your PQ!

    1. Hi, David! Nathan and I always pray together before bed and want you to know that I quoted your tagline in our prayers! This line really resonates and I know Nathan is pondering this today as well! Have you posted on this?! If you haven’t I would really encourage you to do so and to do a video of the song like you did on Alan’s blog! I hope you have a wonderful day and I am SO thankful for you!!!! Love and blessings in Christ!

      1. We had a members meeting to decide and work out the logistics. I wanted to open on Easter but we decided to open on April 18th. There’s also some repairs at church with our building I didn’t know about as part of the reason we pushed it back. Our Church service will continue to stream and our Mid-week Bible study will continue being online since many of our members now won’t be able to travel to Tuesday Bible study at my house with kids, or distance since they live further or some work early the next morning and of course many of you all are out of state!

  5. Happy #2 Birthday to PQ! He is a cute little guy! I enjoyed the photos. Dogs are such good companions. Our Gracie usually gets up with me at 4:30 and shares her couch with me until Corinne gets up at 8:00.

      1. After 15 months of unemployment, Gracie and I had our early-morning couch routine down pat, so I threw a BIG monkey wrench into the works when I went back to work. She’s adjusted to the craziness and, yup, is happy to see me when I come home at 7.

    1. Thank you so much, Annie!! I appreciate that! We were at Lowe’s last night and we brought PQ with a two guys stopped to tell us how cute he was and the one just loved on him and PQ of course was in his glory! I never really understood the benefit of pet therapy or how a dog could bring such joy to people, but I am thankful God is teaching me! I hope I share Jesus’s joy when I am out in public bringing joy to others as PQ does just being PQ! Love and blessings, Annie! You are such a gift!
