Mid August 2021 Prayer

Lord God, thank You that even when we do not know what to pray, what to say or how to process things, we can trust that You hold the whole world in Your Hands.

Lord God, I pray for the people of Afghanistan. Lord God, strengthen the church in Afghanistan. Lord God, strengthen the Church in the surrounding region. Please Lord God, protect the women, children and the all the vulnerable who are perceived as worthless, where their only value is to be exploited and oppressed. Lord God, I pray for the men and women all over the world who have served in Afghanistan, only You know how to help each person process this.

Lord God, I know that this is taboo in many Christian circles Lord but there is no doubt that the climate is changing. Lord God, from the beginning You commanded man to care for and steward the earth, may we steward the earth to the best of our ability knowing that it is Your footstool. Lord God, climate change is not just a manmade phenomena. When we read Your Word about the End Time we read that rivers will dry up and all kinds of natural disturbances will occur. Lord God, may we not miss Your Hand in all of this. May we not think that You are removed from Your Creation. May we point people to Jesus and Your Word in light of these events.

Lord God, what is happening is beyond what I can process. From geopolitics to covid variants, to the increase of persecution and apostasy in the Church, none of this is a surprise to You. Lord God, help us to see and seek You in all of this. Now more than ever may we seek to put on the mind of Christ, having Your Wisdom and Discernment. Holy Spirit, convict Your people. Convict us of our sins of apathy and complacency. Convict us of our sins that are keeping us from loving and depending on You. Lord God, You did not give us a spirit of fear and timidity; You gave us a spirit of power, love and self-control (2 Tim 1:7).

Lord God, may we NEVER forget that the fruit of Your Spirit includes self-control. Self-control is a hinge which all the other fruit rest. Lord God, now more than ever do we need to be a people of self-disciple and self-control. Lord God, I am the first to admit that I fail You daily in regard to emotions and self-control. How can I love if I do not exercise self-control when I am angry with a person? Lord Jesus, help me to grow in this area. Help me to be Your Temple that has a strong foundation and as strong a faith as possible. Lord God, faith and prayer are muscles; may we exercise these muscles in this time. Help us to not be weak, flabby and atrophied believers but strong and resolute.

Lord God, thank You that You are our God who hears and answers prayers. Lord God, may we learn more about You so that we may love You more. May we spend time with You and grow in You for You are the only Constant. You are the only Person we can Trust. You are the only who gives Peace. Lord God, I pray for my brothers and sisters everywhere who are being persecuted for their faith. Lord God, all nations are becoming more hostile to You. Lord God, You tell us that we are in the world but not of the world. May we be reminded that You call us to be the “light of the world” because “Jesus is the Light of the World.” May we point people to Christ in this darkening time. May we help people to see that what is happening is prophetic in nature, written and inspired by You Lord God.

Holy Trinity, thank You that there has NEVER been a moment and NEVER will be a moment where You are not God. Thank You and praise You that You are God. Thank You that when we praise Your Name our outlook improves. May we praise Your Name while we still have breath in our lungs. Lord God, thank You for this reader. May You strengthen and encourage this reader today to live for You in this unique time in history. Lord God, may we make each day count. In Jesus’s Name I pray. Amen.

  2. Thanks, Mandy for a beautiful prayer, and I also pray in agreement.
I like when you pointed out that self-control is the spiritual fruit on which the other fruits hinge.
Although it’s mentioned last in the list, perhaps it may be the most important.

The Holy Spirit helps us to develop this fruit so that we can stay focused on the Lord.

We see desperate situations happening, and still we stay focused on the Lord whose presence calms us even in the midst of storms. 🤗🌼

  3. Amen! Our first instinct when disaster strikes is to pray “Make it stop!” But we were never promised there would be no persecution – in fact, Jesus told us there WOULD be. None of this surprises Him. It’s like reading Revelation on the front page of the paper – or internet. We want to pray for relief, but let’s pray for a strong witness and perseverance to the end. And as unpopular as it might be, let’s pray for our enemies as well. Jesus told us to, and He can do some pretty amazing things. (Think Saul/Paul. 😉)

  4. Wow, so full of truth and power. Climate change.. more evidence that man is not God and that we cannot thrive and flourish apart from Him. He is the creator and sustainer of all things and apart from Him decay and disorder rule. Bless you, sweet sister. And thank you for this beautiful prayer.

Recently my sister mentioned hiw interesting it was that God chose for us to live in these times, for such a time as this. May we be faithful in prayer and in dependency on God.
